SUGAR

Sugar is a natural food product extracted from sugar beet or cane. It is also known as sucrose or saccharose, a disaccharide constituted through the bonding of glucose and fructose molecules. Sucrose is present in sugar beet and cane crops, as well as other plants, trees, flowers, fruits and vegetables.

Sugar belongs to the group of carbohydrates. It is one of the most abundant organic compounds found in nature and our main source of energy.
All the foods in this group have the same energy value: 4 calories per gram. Foods from the group of fats, for example, provide double this amount, 9 calories per gram.

The main function of sugar is to provide the energy our body needs for vital organs to function, such as the brain and muscles. The brain alone is responsible for 20% of our energy consumption from glucose, although it is also necessary for other body tissues, since all the cells in the human body are capable of oxidizing glucose. Furthermore, this energy is absorbed quickly and easily, which is why the body uses it immediately and does not store it as effectively as fat.

Sugar is vitality; it immediately boosts energy levels and produces a sensation of wellbeing. This capacity to produce a feeling of optimism is due to the fact that it activates the production of endorphins, substances secreted by the brain that stimulate the sensation of happiness. That is why increased energy levels caused by the ingestion of something sweet makes us feel good.

The sweet flavour of sugar or sugary foods is one of the most highly valued tastes among human beings. Its consumption is always linked to pleasurable moments, festive atmospheres and celebrations, values that revolve around its inimitable flavour, but which also and especially help us to ensure that our diet is more enjoyable and balanced.
