Sugar is a source of energy that can be absorbed quickly and easily and which is necessary for the body, fundamentally for the brain, muscles and nervous system. According to leading international authorities such as the FAO and the WHO, a daily intake of around 60-80 grams of sugar a day is considered a recommendable and moderate level of consumption. This is the equivalent of 10 teaspoons of sugar, enough to sweeten all kinds of foods and drinks.
Currently, According to leading specialists in dentistry, the consumption of sugar is not considered a risk factor for the development of cavities providing certain dental hygiene measures are followed.
The consumption of sugar does not have a direct link to weight gain, nor indeed do any other foods. Nowadays, nutrition experts believe that obesity is the result of an energy imbalance, in other words when calorie intake is excessive in relation to the person’s energy expenditure.
